NIGERIAN AIRFORCE DEPLOYS TO SENEGAL TO ENFORCE ECOWAS MANDATE IN THE GAMBIA
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed to Senegal as part of Nigerian contingent of Economic Community of West African States Military Intervention in Gambia (ECOMIG) – a standby force tasked by ECOWAS Heads of State to enforce the December 1, 2016 election mandate in the The Gambia. The NAF today moved a contingent of 200 men and air assets comprising fighter jets, transport aircraft, Light Utility Helicopter as well as Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance aircraft to Dakar from where it is expected to operate into Gambia. The deployment is also to forestall hostilities or breakdown of law and order that may result from the current political impasse in The Gambia.
Addressing the contingent before departure, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar urged the troops to maintain discipline and be professional in their conduct. Reminding them to be good ambassadors of Nigeria, the CAS stated that no act of indiscipline by the contingent would be tolerated. The contingent, led by Air Cdre Tajudeen Yusuf, was airlifted this morning from 117 Air Combat Training Group Kainji. Professor, 3 others confirmed dead in Maiduguri explosion.
The police in Borno State said four persons including a professor were killed and 15 others injured in the twin blasts that occurred on the campus of the University of Maiduguri.
The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, also confirmed the number of deaths. The agency, however, said 17 people were injured.
The police public relations officer, Victor Isuku, a deputy superintendent of police, said in a statement that the blast occurred at about 5:15 a.m.
“At about 0515hrs of today, a police mobile force personnel on duty near gate 4 at the back of university of Maiduguri, gunned down a female suicide bomber of about 12yrs old, who was trying to infiltrate the university premised, and the IED strapped to her body exploded killing her instantly.
“Shortly after that, a second explosion occurred in a mosque inside the university. Four (4) persons including a professor and the second suicide bomber died, while fifteen(15) persons sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to UMTH”, he said.
PREMIUM TIMES learnt that the professor mentioned by the police is Aliyu Mani of the Department of Veterinary Medicine.
Worshippers at the mosque said Mr. Mani was inside when the explosion occurred.
In his statement, the spokesperson of NEMA, Sani Datti, also spoke on the blasts.
“One of the suicide bombers detonated his explosion at a Mosque near Gate 1 when people were observing their early morning prayer, the second one occurred around Gate 5 of the University.
“Rescue and security officials were at scene and seventeen injured victims were evacuated to hospital.
“Two persons and two suicide bombers confirmed dead (total of four) at the time of response,” Mr. Datti said.
Monday’s explosion in the university is the first major attack on the university campus by suspected Boko Haram members whose insurgency have caused about 20,000 deaths since 2009.

Mr Fulani Kwajafa OFR, was born on the 22nd December 1936, to the family of late Wakil Mtaku at Kwajafa Village in Hawul LGA Borno State. Between 1950 and 1953, he completed his junior primary School.
He joined the Nigerian police force in 1954 as a constable because he didn't have opportunity for higher education, however he used his initiative and God given Intelligence to further his educational qualification which enabled him reach the peak of his career at the NIGERIAN police force.
The colonial police at then enrolled him at the Mayflower college London UK, and he obtained a higher qualification. Through integrity, dedication and commitment to duties he was able to achieve what his colleagues could not. it was therefore not a surprise that from being a constable in 1954, he became a commissioner of police by 1984. He was the only one to achieve this feat among his colleagues of 49 people.
The name Fulani Kwajafa became a household name in Nigeria because of his achievements in the CID department(29yrs), and he has successfully handled 2,750 cases(murder and robbery cases).He was known for his intelligence and ability to investigate and persecute complicated cases, where other officers dared not attempt.
In the course of duty, he has faced several life threatening situations, despite the hazards attached to his job, He has mingled with criminals, slept in police cells, prisons and even attacked by rioters in order to detect crime.
During the course of his stewardship, he has received numerous commendations and awards (more than nine awards ) notable among them are: The officer of the Federal Republic OFR, inspector General of Police Award (three times), Commissioners commendation (3 times), Certificate of commendation for outstanding and meritorious contributions at international conference on drug control.
In March 1991, He was appointed chairman and chief executive National drug law enforcement agency NDLEA during his tenure, He succeeded in aresting so many drug traffickers/barons.
In 1992 ,He was made chairman financial investigation work group, 14th meeting of heads of National Drug enforcement agencies 5th HONLEA Africa session, Abuja.

The Nigerian Army has officially declared one officer and 45 soldiers missing in a major Boko Haram attacks five weeks ago, PREMIUM TIMES can report.
Consequently, the Army authorities have formally informed the families of the 46 personnel of the fate of their loved ones and requested that their next of kin forward bank details for onward remittance of accrued payments, military sources told PREMIUM TIMES.
The sources said the declaration and notification were contained in a November 20 notice sent by M. Jimoh, the new commander of the Nigerian Army 145 Task Force Battalion in Damasak, Borno State.

Nuhu Ibrahim, a Nigerian medical student at the Nims University, India, on Sunday won the ‘Global Youth Awards 2016’ at the Third World Youth Conference in India.
Mr. Ibrahim was recognized by the conference for the work of his foundation, Alabura Foundation, in Bauchi State and other parts of north-east Nigeria.
The foundation provided healthcare facilities to lacking communities and persons displaced by violence in north-east Nigeria.

The Adamawa Mining Company Limited says it has acquired 12 licenses for solid minerals explorations in the state.
Shanti Shashi, the state Commissioner of Solid Minerals Resources, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Yola on Tuesday.
Ms. Shashi said the state government had also signed a $5 billion agreement with a Swiss company, BTP Swiss Sovereign Asset, for the exploration of solid minerals in the state.
He said the agreement was signed in June 2016 and would last for three years.
“Adamawa Mining Company has acquired 12 solid minerals exploration licenses from Federal Government.
“ The Company has signed five billion dollars agreement with BTP Swiss Sovereign Asset to mine Gold, Diamond, Lead Zinc, Bitumen, Barites, Uranium, and Platinum.
“ The investor is a world-class renowned mining company that can generate a lot of revenue and employment for the state,” Ms. Shashi said.
He said the state government also signed a contract agreement with Dangote Cement for the establishment of cement factory in Guyuk Local Government Area of the state.

The police has confirmed the arrest of one Yusuf Sarkin Gida , a domestic staff of former first lady Turai Yaradua for allegedly stealing 91 million naira from her.
The state commissioner of police Usman Abdullahi who confirmed the development said a formal complain was received before his arrest.

The Nigeria Air Force (NAF) on Tuesday said a night operation conducted on Monday, successfully destroyed a new Boko Haram militants Camp, located between Malam Fatori and Kangarwa in Northern Borno state.
A statement from Air Force spokesman, Group Captain, Ayodele Famuyiwa said the new camp is about 4-6 kilometers away from the Boko Haram location attacked earlier on 20th August 2016, by NAF Mi-17 helicopter.
